Traveling is an incredible experience, and your hearing aids will make it even more vibrant. Enjoy the sounds of waves crashing and bustling local markets, or catch up with a loved one you’re visiting and listen to the birds sing. Hearing aids help you get the most out of your trip; here are some ways to use them to their fullest.

Get Your Hearing Tested Before You Go
If you haven’t had your audiogram updated recently, now is a great time to do it. Even with hearing aids, hearing loss will continue to progress; bring your hearing aids in for a tune-up to make sure they’re adequately meeting your needs. There’s nothing more disappointing than discovering during a trip that you aren’t hearing as well as you thought.
When In Doubt, Bring Extra
You’ll need to add hearing aid supplies to your packing list. In the spirit of “it’s better to have and not need, than need and not have,” we always recommend that you pack extras of everything so you don’t find yourself in a situation where you don’t have essential hearing equipment. Extra batteries, wax guards, earmolds, domes and chargers could make the difference between a great vacation and a quiet one.
Keep Up with Cleaning
We know that vacation is a time to ease up on your routines, but don’t skimp on your hearing aid cleaning routine while you’re away from home. If anything, it may be more important on vacation, as you might be more regularly exposed to moisture (ocean, pool, humidity, sweat, etc.) or other environmental factors that you don’t get at home. Clean and dry them every day.
Know Where to Find Help if You Need It
If something should happen to your devices while you’re on vacation, you’ll need to know where to go to find help. Do some research on hearing aids and audiology services in your vacation location before you go. If you don’t know where to look, ask us at Southwestern Hearing & Balance or check your hearing aids’ phone app for manufacturer services.
