Congratulations Class of 2020!

A message from Dr. Peterson:
As graduations roll around, it’s that time of year again where I can’t help but reflect on the past 12 months. Education, graduation and the start of a career are not things we can take for granted, especially during this unique time we are living through. I think Oprah Winfrey says it best, “Your calling isn’t something that somebody can tell you about. It’s what you feel. It’s a part of your life force. It is the thing that gives you juice. The thing that are you supposed to do. And nobody can tell you what that is. You know it inside yourself.” As a healthcare professional, graduation is about perseverance, abiding by an oath, and taking on new responsibilities with one very important outcome — caring for others.
It is with much excitement I announce the completion of audiology externships for our doctoral students, Claudia and Robert. They have both worked incredibly hard over the last eight years to get to this point. A much-deserved congratulations to Dr. Robert Melton (graduated May 2) and Dr. Claudia Puig-Roman (graduated June 5)! I am very proud of their accomplishments and dedication to the field of audiology. It has been an absolute delight to precept the two of them, have them part of our amazing team, and seeing them transition from student clinicians to audiologists.
Southwestern Hearing Center is dedicated to providing compassionate and evidence-based hearing healthcare, in addition to clinical teaching and the future of audiology. Each year we commit to provide a well-rounded experience for our doctoral externs, while following university and audiology academy standards of care. As Robert and Claudia have both graduated, we begin our next student rotation for 2020-21. I would like to welcome our newest audiology graduate student, Lilybeth Lugo-Montalvo to our team! We are so happy to have her.
