If your child has hearing loss, they\u2019ll need a few extra items and a little more preparation. Having extra batteries can prevent this problem.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cleaning kit.<\/strong> In general, hearing aid cleanings happen at night. But if your child\u2019s devices get dirty on the playground or impacted with wax during the day, it can distort the sound. Pack a cleaning kit just in case this happens.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lanyard\/clip.<\/strong> It\u2019s a good idea to attach your child\u2019s hearing aids to their clothes so if they fall out, they won\u2019t get lost or stepped on.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Basic manual.<\/strong> Hearing aids are technological devices, and sometimes they can malfunction. If your child has a basic manual with them, their teacher or aide can troubleshoot the problem.<\/li>\n<li><strong><\/strong> If all else fails, a notebook can help your child communicate with their instructors or friends throughout the day.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Talk to Teachers &amp; Coaches<\/h2>\n<p>It\u2019s important to prepare your child\u2019s teachers and coaches at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfps.info\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Santa Fe Public Schools<\/a> regarding your child\u2019s hearing loss and communication needs prior to the school year starting. During this meeting, you can also show them how your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asha.org\/public\/hearing\/hearing-aids-for-children\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">child\u2019s hearing aids<\/a> and any assistive listening devices work.<\/p>\n<h2>Get an Updated Audiogram<\/h2>\n<p>In order for your child to hear their best this school year, make sure they get an updated audiogram. Annual hearing tests ensure that any changes to your child\u2019s hearing are compensated for, whether by reprogramming their devices or upgrading them.<\/p>\n<h2>Prepare Them for Questions<\/h2>\n<p>Kids are curious and may ask your child about their hearing loss or hearing aids.
